“Bughead” was a nickname I had in school. It was in part because of my unkempt natural hair, which was not in style in the 1980s (at least not in Detroit Region Four Open School). 

Nowadays I look at the photos of myself that I “hated” and wish that I appreciated the freedom and beauty of my hair (especially now that it is gone for good..)

Bughead (a self portrait) is an interactive piece which takes design cues from a Woolly Willy novelty toy that I played with during long car rides. Using a magnetic stylus and a sketch based on one of my old yearbook photos, the viewer is encouraged to be inventive with the my hair.
